Sun (Soorya-Ravi) I pray to the Sun, the day-maker, destroyer of all sins, the enemy of darkness, of great brilliance, the descendent of Kaashyapa, the one who shines like the japaa flower.

MOON (CHANDRA)

Dadhi-shankha Tushaarabham Ksheeror-daarnava sambhavam
Namami Shashinam SomamShambhor-mukuta-bhooshanam

I pray to the Moon who shines coolly like curds or a white shell, who arose from the ocean of milk, who has a hare on him, Soma, who is the ornament of Shiva's hair.



Mars (Kuja -Ankarakan)


Dharani-garba-sampootam Vidyut-kaanti Sama-prabham
Kumaram Shakti-hastam tam Mangalam Pranamamyaham (split as Pranamami aham)

I pray to Mars, born of Earth, who shines with the same brilliance as lightning, the young man who carries a spear.

I pray to Mercury, dark like the bud of millet, of unequalled beauty, gentle and agreeable.


Jupiter (Guru)

I pray to Jupiter, the teacher of gods and rishis, intellect incarnate, lord of the three worlds.


Venus (Sukran)

I pray to Venus, the utimate preceptor of demons, promulgator of all learning, he who shines like the fiber of snow-white jasmine.

I pray to Saturn, the slow moving, born of Shade and Sun, the elder brother of Yama, the offspring of Sun, he who has the appearance of black collyrium.

I pray to Rahu, having half a body, of great bravery, the eclipser of the Moon and the Sun, born of Simhikaa.



Kethu

I pray to Ketu, who has the appearance of Palaasha flower, the head of stars and planets, fierce and terrifying.


Iti Vyasa-mukhot-geetam Yah Padeth Su-samaahitaha
Diva-vaa-yadi-vaa-ratro Vigna-shantir-bhavishyati

Those who read the song sung by VyAsa, will be joyous, sovereign and powerful, and will succeed in appeasing obstacles, occurring by day or by night.

Nara-naari-nripaanam cha Bhavet Do:swapna-naashanam
Aishwarya-matulaam tesham Aarogyam Pushti-vardhanam

Bad dreams of men, women and kings alike will be destroyed and they will be endowed with unparalleled riches, good health and enhancing nourishment.

Graha-nakshatraja Peeda Taskaragni-samudbhavaha
Taa-sarvaa-prashamam-yaanti Vyaso-bhrute-na-samshayaha

All the pain, devastation caused by fire, planets and stars will be of the past, so spoke VyAsa, emphatically.

Iti Shree-Vyasa virachitam Navagraha stotram sampoornam.

Thus ends the song of praise of the nine planets composed by Vyasa.

Once a sage was lying by the roadside deeply immerged in Samadhi. A thief, while passing by that way, saw him and thought: ‘This fellow here must be a thief. He must have broken into some houses last night and is now sleeping through exhaustion. The police will be very soon here to catch him. So let me escape in time.’ Thus cogitating, he ran away.

Soon after, a drunkard came there, and seeing the sage, said, ‘Hallo! you have fallen into the ditch by drinking too much. Eh! I am steadier than yourself and am not going to tumble down.’

Last of all there came a sage, and realizing that a great saint was lying in the state of Samadhi, sat down by his side and began to press his holy feet gently.

- Our worldly tendencies prevent us from recognizing true holiness and piety.

What is Karma?

What is Karma? I have a hard time understanding this. No matter what I read or what I listen. I always feel that I have a good grasp of this and then at times it doesn't make any sense and I am back to square one. Well, my question has always been - If what we are reaping is the product of the past or due to the past 'Karma' we did. Then why don't we remember the past? so at least we know why we are going through what we are going through and we 'learn' from our past or mistakes we did so that we will not make the same mistake again?.

I know there is a better and more profound explanation to my question.. and I just need to find it. and hopefully, one of you or some of you may be able to answer my question and enlighten me :)

There are many definitions to Karma - Karma is actions, ie - Good karma is good actions and Bad karma is bad actions. Some say - Karma is simply the process of cause and effect. If you do A, B will happen. If you plant tomato seeds, and water and look after them, tomatoes will grow.

Sri Rudram and Chamakam

Well,  today is my fourth day since I'd started my "spiritual saathana".... I've decided to learn to meditate and try and study the or listen to the "Rudram".  So everyday I have been listening to "Rudram" and learn it.

Rudram is a hyme devoted to 'Lord Shiva'. The hyme is in two parts - first part is known as the 'Namakam' and the second is the   'Chamakam'.  Namakam is asking Lord shiva to forget his fierceful look and become peaceful and bless us.  Chamakam is listing the number of blessings we got from praying to 'Lord Shiva', and asking him to bless our lives.  Below are the audio files.

Vedha's are so pure and listening to the above chantings gave me a different experience that is beyond words to describe.  As I mentioned in the previous posts, it is very difficult for me to sit and meditate.  I day dream and think about a lot of irrelevant things and fool myself.  Interestingly,  when I was listening to the above chantings ( only Sri Rudram, I haven't started listening to Chamakam),  I was in a different state - at least I think.  I wasn't day dreaming as I used to.  I should correct my self - I wasn't day dreaming as much as I used to.  Let's see how well I do in future...
