The Ways of the Divine

This story takes place during the times of the Pandavas in their exile in the forest. In the forest there was a great sage named Romarishi whose body was covered in hair which spread like a carpet throughout the forest. At the same time there was a sacred tree in the forest which held a very special fruit. Anyone who ate this fruit would never be hungry or thirsty ever again. However the fruit couldn't be plucked, it had to fall down by itself onto the floor.

One day when Dharmaraja and Draupadi came across this plant, Draupadi has a temptation for this fruit. Therefore shot an arrow at it and it fell to the ground. However as soon as it hit the ground it became very heavy. Dharmaraja tried to pick it up but it was very heavy. After that everyone tried to pick up the fruit but no one was successful. Meanwhile the hair of Romarishi was beginning to get moved and stepped upon. Romarishi got made and forced his hairs to go and coil up the people who were trying to get the fruit. As soon as Draupadi saw this she prayed to Lord Krishna to save them. Lord Krishna came down and said he couldn't do anything because he lives in Romarishi's heart. Draupadi begged Krishna to save the others. Krishna said that the Pandavas and Draupadi had to follow Krishna's lead and go to Romarishi's ashram after sometime Krishna was there.

At this time Romarishi was getting angry and was ready to walk towards to plant. Right then Krishna entered Romarishi's. Romarishi the forgot about everything and started taking care of Krishna. After a few moments the Pandavas and Draupadi entered. Right then Krishna fell to the feet of the Pandavas and Draupadi and so did Romarishi. The Pandavas and Draupadi felt very awkward but just continued with the play because they were told to.Finally Krishna told Romarishi that they were the ones who wanted the fruit. Romarishi then gave the fruit to them. This divine play is what allowed the Pandavas and Draupadi to survive the life in the forest without much food and water.

This play put by Krishna may seem funny and may seem like a lie but it allowed them the Pandavas and Draupadi to live through the life in the forest. Even though Lord Krishna played with Romarishi he still made everyone happy.
